Add Language Support to InDesign & Illustrator CS4

Press release
International software developer and distributor WinSoft announced the release of its newest products: ScribeDOOR for Illustrator CS4 and ScribeDOOR for InDesign CS4. ScribeDOOR adds the ability to edit and treat text in 21 complex languages, including Arabic, Hebrew and Farsi as well as many Indic and South-East Asian languages, to two of Adobe’s powerful design and desktop publishing applications.
Working as a complement to the regular* versions of Illustrator and InDesign, ScribeDOOR helps graphic designers and desktop publishers maximize their treatment of multiple complex languages and scripts, at the same time, in these two applications. It is intended for users of InDesign and Illustrator who have occasional need of multiple complex scripts, as opposed to the complete range of Arabic and Hebrew functionalities of the Middle Eastern versions of InDesign and Illustrator.
One of ScribeDOOR’s most important features is the access it gives to the WorldReady Composer, giving users the ability to type in complex languages in the regular versions of InDesign and Illustrator, enriching the functionalities of these applications and increasing the impact of their work.
“ScribeDOOR provides access to a set of complex scripts- from Arabic and Hebrew to the Indic languages and more, for InDesign and Illustrator CS4 thanks to the WorldReady composer,” said Philippe Bonnardel, ScribeDOOR Product manager.
Another of ScribeDOOR’s important features is its standalone capability and cross functionality, meaning that once a work has been created in InDesign or Illustrator with ScribeDOOR, it is able to be viewed in its entirety by another user without needing to install ScribeDOOR. As with other text applications, depending on the document and fonts chosen, it may be necessary to provide the appropriate fonts with the document. Documents created in the non Middle-Eastern versions of Illustrator or InDesign with ScribeDOOR are also compatible with the other versions of the same applications.
“Most InDesign and Illustrator CS4 users will be able to type their native languages and share their writings with any other user of InDesign and Illustrator without them having to install additional plug-ins”, Bonnardel added. “We believe that this functionality makes it easy for the ScribeDOOR user to share their work. This is an important benefit for users as it represents a savings in time and money.”
Other ScribeDOOR Features
ScribeDOOR offers three additional settings for paragraph justification to InDesign and Illustrator in addition to the standard left, center, right or full justify alignments: standard, Arabic and Naskh, giving Arabic users the creative freedom to choose the settings that give the best stylistic results.
The Selection Helper feature, in Arabic, and Hebrew scripts, is a simple and effective tool for editing complex text. By presenting each letter separately, the selection and transformation of each letter, character or digit is made extremely easy.
ScribeDoor for InDesign also includes the Arabic Spelling and Hebrew Hyphenator, adding increased spelling functionality.
ScribeDoor follows Tasmeem in the series of WinSoft products released as part of its ongoing strategy of building quality, branded software that meets the needs of users of complex scripts. It is available for both Windows and Macintosh.
Helping users of InDesign and Illustrator maximize the use of complex scripts in these products for a reasonable price was an important objective for WinSoft. ScribeDOOR is available in the WinSoft store for $89/€69 for individual purchase of either ScribeDOOR for Illustrator or ScribeDOOR for InDesign or $129/€99 for the package of the two ScribeDOOR products together. Through the 30th of November, 2009, WinSoft is offering a special promotional price of $89/€69 per product, with the second available for only $10/€10.

ScribeDOOR has difficult and bulky UI.
I used the trial version of ScribeDoor. Fortunately, before I was planning to buy it, my friend recommended to use IndicPlus (www.metadesignsolutions.com/indicPlus). This is an excellent plugin for Adobe InDesign. It is available for CS 2,3 and 4 and for both Windows and Macintosh Platforms.
It supports all the Indic and Asian languages listed above, and has a neglible cost – just $25 for InDesign CS4. The typography options available with this plugin are simply superb.
I will strongly recommend to use this plugin. Have more information here. These guys also have a demo-video of IndicPlus.
