If I have a book that is supposed to start from one side in Hebrew (right to left) and from the other in English (left to right), how should I set up the file? I choose the page direction with InTools. But how can I set up a file to have both types of directions?

Also, typesetting q: what should be done about pagination? Should it begin separately from both sides?

      Thanks.

Setting up paragraph styles for English and Hebrew is the easy part. The problem in any set-up is the binding: Hebrew starts on a left-hand page, English on a right-hand page. How are you going to deal with that?

      That’s exactly my question!
I’ve done many books with Hebrew and English. But never one that can be opened from both directions.

I typesetter I asked recommended setting up 2 files and letting the plate-maker take care of it. But I was wondering if there is a better technical way…

      Anyone?

How is it supposed to look? One language after the other, e.g. first Hebrew (pp. 1-100), then English (pp. 101-200) (or the other way around)? Or is it a parallel text, with English on the left-hand pages and Hebrew on the right-hand pages?

one that can be opened from both directions.

If a book can be opened from both directions, then where is the Binding???

If the binding is going to be on both sides, then how will you open it???

For these kind of things, you can either create two files; one for English and the other for Hebrew. Then create two PDFs which can then be combined into one book by the printer. Keeping the front and back covers as Front Covers only.

Sorry if it was not clear – When you hold the book in your hand with the binding on the left, it reads like an English book until lets say page 150 at which point you bump into the last page of the Hebrew section. And when you hold the book in your hand with the binding on the right, it reads the correct direction in Hebrew until it reaches the lat page of the English section.

When Hebrew and English are mixed or appear side by side, one can choose a binding direction, but its awkward to read a complete English text from right page to left page or vice versa with Hebrew.

Masood, is what you suggested an idea or something you have successfully done?
