Holy smokes, this just worked.

-Install PPD per Adobe’s instructions.

InDesign
-File->Print Booklet

-In Print Settings:
-Printer: PostScript File
-PPD: Device Independent

Print the .ps file

In Distiller:
-Default page size: 17×11
-Open .ps file, distill

I got an imposed 17×11 file with this method. I’m around and can do screen shots if you need them.
