Still using CS1? Consider an Upgrade Before It’s Too Late.

Upgrade before CS5 ships to maintain eligibility for upgrade pricing.

Once upon a time, Adobe had what could only be considered the most generous upgrade policy in the software industry. That is, any earlier version of a program was eligible for a new version at upgrade pricing.

That policy went out the window with the introduction of Create Suite 3 which restricted upgrades to three versions back and for suite purchases introduced tiered pricing where the most recent version was priced lower than the two older, but still eligible products.

While no official Adobe CS5 announcements have been made, Adobe’s John Nack blogged a reminder to users about the current policy noting that when CS5 does ship, owners of original CS licenses will be out of the upgrade loop and will have to pay full price if they wish to upgrade.

So, if you’re still using CS, upgrading to CS4 before CS5 ships will not only get you a slew of great new features and enhancements, but it will save you a considerable amount of money down the road.

One final note. If you have a suite product you cannot upgrade individual components. A suite license is considered one product with one serial number. An individual application upgrade will not recognize the suite or its serial number for upgrading.
