I use InDesign CS6. I have a document with buttons that when clicked they make a certain image pop up. Each button is a png image placed on a layer and each pop up image is a jpg placed on a different layer. There are several buttons per page and many pages in the document. When I export to an interactive pdf in some of the pages when I click on the button the image appears but then a button that is under the pop up appears over the image. This doesn’t happen in all pages, and it seems that the button that appears over the pop up is the button last clicked (if it happens to be under the pop up). Does this make any sense?

Yes, button objects always sit on top of non-interactive objects. And often the newest (most-recently selected) button object will be top-most. I would recommend not overlapping buttons.

Vicky, you could also try making your “pop up image” a button as well. Just convert it to a button, but add no functionality. This way it is also a button object and it might sit on top of your other button.

      Thanks for your answers.
My pop up image is already a button to enable the “invisible until triggered” action. It is certain though that when the box containing the image defined as a button overlaps with another button there are problems. Not just what I mentioned above but also disappearing buttons and images constantly redrawing. I changed the layout to avoid overlapping and everything works smoothly.

This post explains the stacking problem and two solutions are offered in the comments. Steve Werner and Max Wyss provide two ways to fix this. I used Max’s method of editing the order in Acrobat and it worked just fine.

Thanks for this. It’s good to know there is a logical explanation. There are hundreds of buttons in my document so I will not try to change anything now (plus the new layout created to solve the problem is looking good) but I will be better prepared next time.
