I have a paragraph with shading behind it. I want the shading to always stay within the margins of the page.
But I also want there to always be a gap between the shading and the text.
So I can’t use “clip to frame” or I lose that.
I feel like there must be a workaround.
      Any ideas?
      TIA!

You should use ‘left indent’ and ‘right indent’.

@Petar Sorry I should have specified – left and right are fine.
I mean the top and bottom.

@Steve Davis – what’s the easiest way of sharing a screenshot here?

In that case, I use top and bottom margins slightly bigger throughout the book.

But that would only work when its the only thing on the page. Not if it comes after a different style.

That’s interesting… tricky… I think what you’re looking for is the equivalent of the “Keep in Frame” feature you can get with Rule Above or Rule Below. The Shading feature doesn’t offer that.

I’d say put it in a table cell, but that won’t break across pages, of course.

      Hm…

Right, the cell wouldn’t work for this project.
To me it seems so intuitive that people would want this option!
Any other creative solutions aside from moving each text box with a shaded box down so the color starts in the right place – something I really don’t want to do!
