Affecting Just an Object in a Multi-State Object

      In the Object States Panel, I have 6 states. They each have an image and a caption in them.When I click on one state that state is selected but when I want to just select the object and I double click on it to do so as it is shown in the video, I can not select just the object which would result in the icon in object states panel state turning to a square with a dot in it. What happens is that the object states panel goes blank.Please advise.
