PBS Arts: The Art of Portrait Photography
The latest episode of PBS Arts web video series Off Book is devoted to an exploration of the art of portrait photography.
The video features an examination of the history of portraiture, tracing its roots all the way back to cave paintings and the art of the ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greeks.
There are also fascinating segments on personal storytelling, challenging the language of portraits, and the relationship of photographer and subject.
If you have even just a passing interest in photography (and 8 minutes), it’s well worth the take, as are the rest of the Off Book episodes, including The Art of Logo Design, Glitch Art, and The Universal Art of Graphic Design.
