I have this problem twice. The first time I tried to move a quote to a text box but it became invisible in the box. I mean I can see it ever so faintly. The same happened when after adding text to my document, I ended up with overset text. In moving it to the next blank page, it too became invisible. In both cases, if I highlight it, it shows in black bars and I can see it in the story editor. I’ve checked all of the paragraph styles and settings. There are no weird characters, spaces, breaks, layers, text wraps, and the color of the text is black. Then I tried moving a leaf that was at the end and the text came back, but as soon as I clicked out of the box to somewhere else, even to another application, it disappears again. I tried retyping the word before that page and again the text came back, and again, as soon as I clicked out of the frame, the text went invisible. I am going nuts. Can anyone help me? I’ve been stuck for two days on this.

I think I have had this problem too. The only way I could make it work was to select the “invisible” type and manually apply the color black to it. But as to why this was happening, I don’t have a clue.

Thanks Don. It is nice to get a reply, even more than one month after I posted. But it is fixed. I did try what you suggested and it seemed to work, once, but not again. The next time I carried overset text to another text box or tried to add another text box and bring text into it, it happened again, and again… After days reading forums and watching tutorials, I spent several hours on text chat (a horrible way to work, with us fighting over the cursor) with someone from Adobe, after which he/she asked me to send the document. After waiting almost a full week, no one got back to me so I tried the chat again. The next person couldn’t get to the document (it was “in engineering”) so we started over and after several hours I was told it was all my fault for not knowing the program and that I must never use more than 1 point extra leading between paragraphs and such nonsense. At the last moment, when I refused to be left with vague links for my edification and a ruined document with all my paragraph styles deleted, he/she added one thing and it all worked. It was to check off “smart text reflow” in the type preferences. I have not had the problem since. Very strange! His/her last note was, “See! It only took me five minutes to fix your problem!” (I hope you enjoyed my rant.)
