I rummaged around some dusty Flickr vaults to find this week’s image.
It was shot in 1942 by Nickolas Muray, an American photographer who lived from 1892-1965, for the now-defunct McCall’s magazine. It’s part of the George Eastman House Collection (accession number 1971:0034:0005).
The Collection notes state that the original medium was a “color print, assembly (Carbro) process” but has no explanation for why the photo shows four right feet and six left feet and why an orchestra is playing. What do you think is going on?

Reminds me of some of the Carbro color work done by Paul Outerbridge in the 30’s and 40’s. Among his more famous works he also shot numerous covers for House Beautiful in that era.
