Students’ Portfolio Work Honored

Quark and The Art Institutes have announced the winners of their annual graphic design competition. “Portfolio Work” was the theme of this year’s contest and student entries were required to exhibit excellent design, contain proper formatting for production, and include relevant features from QuarkXPress®. The grand prize includes an all expenses paid trip to the National Student Design Show in Dallas, TX, and a two-month paid internship with Quark.
The grand prize was awarded to Victor Trevino of The Illinois Institute of Art — Chicago. Trevino entered the only multi-page layout that made the competition finals. Judges were impressed by his effective use of type throughout the layout and his solid overall use of QuarkXPress.
“The example of portfolio work that Victor submitted caught the eye of our judges because his use of type within the layout was so well done,” said Chris Edwards, senior account manager for education at Quark. “We congratulate him on his innovative design, and look forward to his internship with us.”
“It’s an honor to have won this year’s design contest,” said Trevino. “My design focused on time, and my aim was to use type in a minimalist fashion to create all the graphics within the layout. I’m happy it resonated with the judges and I can’t wait to work with Quark.”
