Adobe Photoshop 5.5
What could possibly be said about this program that you have not already heard? Adobe Photoshop is the world’s standard image-editing solution for both print and the Web. Version 5.5 comes with Adobe ImageReady 2.0. Although technically still two separate programs, a single button click allows you to take an image directly from Photoshop into ImageReady, with layers unflattened. From there you have access to a full array of Web tricks including slicing, rollovers, image maps, and animated GIFs.
Perhaps one of the more exciting new features in version 5.5 is the Save for Web option inside Photoshop. Roxanne Etheridge presents a nice demonstration of the power of this feature in her review at Pixart Online. In addition, Bob Weibel at Computer Currents.com offers up a beefy review of several features found new in version 5.5.
Photoshop users will also find the following link quite useful: www.photoshopuser.com. This is the home of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (and Photoshop User magazine) an educational organization just for people who use Adobe Photoshop.
