I just placed a Word file into ID CC 2019 and two things have occurred.
When I view it in Story Editor, every line of text shows a small rectangle with an X at the beginning of the line.
The first heading on the page and the first paragraph following it are mirrored from how the text should actually read. At first I thought it was a foreign language, but no, I can read it in reverse.
The table that is below the first paragraph reads correctly, but also has the rectangles with Xs at the beginning of each cell, and darker rectangles with Xs between multiple choice letters.
Fortunately, when I option-click to remove the overrides to the paragraph styles of the first heading and the first paragraph, the text reverses to its proper reading order, but I don’t how to clean out the rectangles with Xs. I can’t select them, and you can’t see these invisible characters in the layout.
Now that I know that clearing the overrides (which I would do anyway) will clear up the mirroring issue, there doesn’t seem to be a problem, but I don’t know if those rectangles could cause a problem down the road.
Has anyone else experienced this? I did see these once in a CC 2018 project, when placing very old Word files. But I don’t think this is an old file.
Thanks for any guidance you can provide!
