99 Shades of Grey
Over the past year, the novel Fifty Shades of Grey has taken the publishing world by storm, topping best seller lists the world over, and surpassing even the likes of Harry Potter, to become the fastest-selling paperback of all time.
Not to be outdone, the folks at Ridiculo.us have created a Kickstarter project to make their own “shades of grey” book. But it’s not what you think. It’s called 99 Shades of Grey, and it is literally a book composed of 99 pages, each with a progressively darker shade of grey.
For pledges ranging from $1 to $99, backers can get the book in soft-cover, hard-cover, or ebook formats, t-shirts, posters, and the privilege of naming a particular shade of grey.
Like its inspiration, the campaign has been wildly successful, already surpassing their initial funding goal by a factor of ten, and is now set to “go official,” and register an ISBN.
From my limited experience with that book series (I read a snippet on Amazon and book reviews), I’d say “99” is vastly more entertaining and less repetitive.
