Maybe working with layers can help you.

Show and hide layers is not an option for the buttons, inside InDesign.
But you can finish your PDF with Acrobat Professional, where yes, we have the show and hide actions.

I think a simple Find/Change will do the the job…

Search for “E ” and change for “E”.
