MemberAfter running a quick test, this script is amazing but won’t work for my specific needs. It does not have the ability to only update numbers in a certain range as it simply updates an entire story or document.
Steve Straus
MemberI was looking at that script but it felt like a money script. Have you worked with it before? Can I simply tell it to ADD +2 to all numbers in an index in a certain number range? I’ll give it a try to see if it can work the magic I need. Thanks!

MemberUnfortunately, the manuscript is coming from an author and this is how they styled the entire manuscript. Since the book is over 20 chapters, fixing each chapter doc just isn’t going to happen. I was hoping that there was a secret button to hit to keep Word overrides. ;)

MemberMarc — sorry to mislead you. Your solution worked perfectly and for that I am grateful. Since you seem to have an amazing grasp on some of the intimate details of charts, I was merely hoping to tap into this expertise one more time. My response was another issue that I can’t seem to figure out.

MemberYou have earned your ID Master badge for the day! This works perfectly. Do you want to go double or nothing with table issues? Another ongoing issue I have with tables in in the column heads. For a multiple column head with a column rule between each column, how do I automatically turn off the outside columns so the disappear? The left side drops off but the right side always picks up the style of the middle divider, thus I need to manually turn this border off.
Here’s a sample of what my problem is (tweaked for easy reading):

MemberKai — Here is a link to a set of files to help clarify what I am looking for:

After working up this sample, I think it might work better to try to export the text to a new ID doc where tweaks could be made prior to exporting to Word. Page 4 shows what type of doc I am looking to create: one with all the text in a single text box with style slugs added to each new style.
This file also contains a working version of StyleTagger too.
Any interest in trying to create such a script? If so, for how much?

MemberKai — My end goal is a Word doc with visible style tags embedded directly into the text so an editor can see what style the paragraph is when they are editing the doc. The second goal of such a script is so when re-imported back into ID, I can use this slug as an element that can be used in Find/Change to style the text. Yes, it would cause overflow in the ID doc, but my end file that I need is a Word doc, so trashing the ID doc would be okay. I agree that this would be a special script that is well worth paying for. I was not looking for a hand-out as this is for commercial purposes.

MemberKai — Do you know of a script that would do such a task? I use a script that adds small text boxes in near each style but would also like the ability to add in-text style slugs upon export.

MemberHenk — Thank you for the offer, but I found a script via the Adobe scripting forum: https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1676312?sr=stream

MemberMarie —
I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the suggestion of the macro. While it works perfectly, I was hoping for an automatic plug in solution for InDesign. Using this macro still means opening up every file in Word prior to pouring. I’m no Word wizard so maybe there is a “run macro on folder” option that I am not aware of. Thanks for the tip!

Member@Dwayne — even with Flight Check turned off, the doc was super slow. I decided to turn off all the upcoming spanning heads and then manually changing them back to the their correct style. By doing this, it went back to the normal speed. . .

MemberJean-Claude Tremblay was able to help me with a solution:
\{NLAL\}*((.+\r)+)(?=\{NL\})
Works like a dream!

MemberAfter running a few tests, yes this will work for me. That being said, I am not going to change the way I do it because this is being edited in InCopy. One problem with anchored text is that it does not show up in the Story or Galley view in InCopy. The only way to edit this text is in layout view. While this is doable, I don't want to dictate to the editor how to use InCopy — they need to do it the way they are comfortable.
Anchoring the text and tint block is a great solution. I will keep it in mind for future projects. Since this book is not my design, I don't have the authority to alter the design for production sake. . .

MemberWhile this might work in other situations, this one is particularly frustrating. I need to place an irregular shaped element behind the text block (sort of a star burst thingy). Since this can't be done with Rules, I am stuck anchoring it. I was hoping to find a way to get this behind the text, but it turns out that this is just a fantasy of mine. . .
