ParticipantI’d like to give my thanks as well, the script worked beautifully!

ParticipantI always start out with a pretty broad profile, then I go through more specific ones just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. Perhaps not necessary, but it feels more controlled.

ParticipantHi Babie,
I would second Noel’s recommendation on learning how to use paragraph styles, character styles (and object styles, for graphics) effectively. They are huge timesavers, and completely indispensable tools when working in indesign.
A second tip I’d offer is to make template documents so you don’t have to recreate styles, adjust margins and columns etc. for each and every new project.
If you haven’t already, I’d check out videos on those topic over at lynda. As for other resources, I’ve pretty much relied on indesignsecrets articles (in addition to the training I got at my office) to become (more) efficient at using ID.

ParticipantThank you so much, David. I should have done a more thorough search, sorry about that. I will definitely read up on those, so I’m prepared for my next incoming project. Anne-Marie’s lynda course also looks great, really looking forward to digging into that. Pretty happy I signed up recently :)
Sarah and David: I’m always a tad nervous about clearing overrides, which is why my current life mission is to make sure the word files import the way they’re supposed to. Both of your tips are great for their purpose though, thanks!
PS: I thought I posted a reply to this thread some days ago, but something must have happened. Didn’t mean to be late in responding!
Edit: I know I said clearing local overrides is ok, I’m just a bit apprehensive about doing it globally. I guess with proper preparation it shouldn’t be a worry though.

ParticipantHi David
Thank you, that worked nicely! Instead of Leading though, I chose x-height with Min: 2,3mm. If I’m confusing terms here, it’s because I don’t have the English language version of ID. Either way, those settings made for a good compromise when I didn’t want the header to be offset too much, but also don’t care if there’s a bit less space between said header and the body text.
I found an old blog post of yours (now that I knew which terms to search for) which I think might hold some solutions also:
https://creativepro.com/push-down-the-first-line-of-text.phpThanks again!

ParticipantDavid: Thanks a lot, that worked really well! For First Baseline Offset I chose x-height, with Min.: 2,3 mm. The ascenders are pushed a fraction outside of the text box, but the offset isn’t too visible. Also, this method (with my settings) made the space between the header and the body text a bit less than the 1,128mm, but it looks much better. Thanks! Can’t wait for the next podcast btw :)
Dwayne: That’s a really cool solution as well, but unfortunately it doesn’t work for my situation, as the misalignment between the header and the first line on the opposing page becomes to visible when I’m nearing the header/body text distance that I’m after. Still, that’s a really cool way of doing it, and I’m gonna keep it in my notebook for a project where it could be applicable!

ParticipantI apologise by bumping this old topic, but I wanted to add that this is the solution I went for just now, as I was looking for ways to resize my document in progress.
I created a new ID document with the layout I needed, imported all the paragraph and character styles from my incorrectly sized document, then did the old cmd+c and cmd+v to bring the text over, story by story. I’m working on a book with no pictures in it, so this method did the job nicely.

ParticipantWe’ve been using this free, online EAN-13 generator at my office. It exports to pdf, ai, eps, png and jpg:
