Ooooohhhhh, awesome! That first set of instructions is pretty labor intensive, but I see Colin has made a few scripts as well though, so I’ll give those a go.

MyDataMerge looks interesting too, more $$$ but if it automates the process significantly it’ll be well worth it.

Thanks David!

We’re starting to see more Canva files submitted for print also, we’re in the US. 99.9% of the files are, no shockingly, utter garbage but we run them anyway. Add bleeds where we can, stretch or squeeze the files to fit the expected final size, I’ve done horrific things to Canva files because I know there’s no talking sense to the people submitting them. On the upside, they’re oblivious what “good” means so they never notice!

Speaking from the view of an end-user (prepress for a commercial printer) I’d say very FEW designers are doing what you’re describing. Now, in many cases that’s not a problem, given faster Internet connections, cheaper large storage and better equipped workstations to deal with those bigger images. Sure, back in “the day” you could make an argument for saving space & transfer times whenever possible.

To play devil’s advocate, I’ve seen some places transfer over1GB worth of packaged files for what effectively becomes a <10MB PDF, however. In those cases, I wonder why they’re not using smaller images, but then have to also think about having way too many sized versions of the same pics floating around their servers. And the chance that somebody on their end grabs an under-sized image probably isn’t worth the risk.

It’s not an argument you’re likely to win, if this is the way it’s been done and they haven’t been burned by it. Sure, it’s a waste of time & needless work on your and but if it’s protocol – good luck!

I don’t believe there’s a way to have text continue between lines using Form Fields, since they’re really individual text boxes, and don’t behave like typical linked text boxes. You could, however, make one giant text box over the top of all the lines, and turn on the Multi-line option. Not sure you’ll have any options for controlling the leading within the box, so the resulting text may not match up correctly to the InDesign lines.

If you’re also running Acrobat Pro, check out Tomaxxi’s form creation tool:

Amazing and gives you a LOT of control over forms!

Got it! I made a few individual Events in the desktop App, added them to a New Calendar & Exported that as an .ics file and that linked file works as expected. Prompts the user to Subscribe to the Calendar. I’d like the option to create each date as a separate link within the PDF so users can add individual Events, but we’ll see if that’s worth the effort.

Maybe, that’s what I tried doing by placing the link to an individual .ics file into a Shared/Public folder on Dropbox but it wasn’t recognized. The literal error shown is:

“Cannot Subscribe.
Could not subscribe to the calendar “Event Name” from http://www.dropbox.com”

I’ll try it on a “real” server and see if that’s successful. Kind of surprised this isn’t more common.

More testing to follow!!
