ParticipantAll sorts of folders here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3Rich Harvey
ParticipantDell may have performed an update without my knowing it. This is why I never (sort of) update my system. This system may update, but the little connectors that make the software work with the system don’t necessarily update.
I tried holding down on ctrl shift and alt and clicked InDesign … same results.
When I follow the path on the page you linked to:
Windows Vista or Windows 7:
C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\versionanguage\ InDesign Defaults… I get stopped dead in my tracks. There is no “language” folder. Could this be the issue?

ParticipantAaron,
Well that worked just fine! I was preparing to work on a document when I recalled this old thread. Frankly, I never paid much attention to the Drop Cap menu after Number of characters and number of lines. Amazing how the solution was there all along … Thanks!Rich Harvey
ParticipantUnfortunately … this book project has 100 chapters … and if I make a correction, I may have to go back and fix all of these. Well, I stick with the tried and true method you mention. Thanks!
Rich Harvey
ParticipantThat’s using InDesign’s “Table of Contents” feature, which may be more trouble than it’s worth …
Rich Harvey
ParticipantWell, that fixed it! Thanks, Dave!

ParticipantStyle in word … style in InDesign … I’ll check and clear point sizes.
Rich Harvey
ParticipantOh, yeah … this is for Adobe InDesign CS3.

ParticipantOkay … Any tips? Something like this happened once before, but I can’t remember the procedures. I’ll run CCleaner … should I delete the registry?
It took a few attempts, before, to get the Creative Suit working again. The most frustrating part was the slow, torturous reinstalling. Took a lot longer than I remembered the first time.

ParticipantUsually, these days, I just format everything with paragraph styles … except for “bold” and “italic,” and “text variables” for the headers, I use practically no character styles. I actually deleted most of the character styles (at someone’s suggestion), as text formatting becomes a tug-of-war between the two different palettes.
Rich Harvey
ParticipantOkay … turns out the white text was coming from a random style I clicked on in the Character Styles. Selected all, [None] for Character Styles, fixed it.
Rich Harvey
ParticipantI tried both methods … both are turning text white.
I poke around in the characters and try and find something.

ParticipantPreferences > General > Page Numbering > View > Section Numbering
Got it!
Rich Harvey
ParticipantWhoops … not quite … STILL … InDesign will number the page “10” … but the page pallette window still starts at “1” … *sigh* …
Rich Harvey
ParticipantOKAY! This article helped me to fix the numbering problem: https://creativepro.com/making-the-page-number-and-pages-panel-numbers-match.php
Still getting the brackets, so I suppose I want to turn off “Allow Sections to Shuffle” …
