MemberCould you explain how text frames are arranged and ordered? Do you have all text frames already placed and want them to be filled or do you want them to be generated?

MemberThere are quite a couple of plugin solution alternatives. We prefer Mydatamerge (Mac only). Easy interface, 30 days trial- might be enough to accomplish your task. https://mydatamerge.com

MemberIf your on mac try MyDataMerge (https://mydatamerge.com) for indesign. It seems to fit your needs perfectly.
– export individually
– name individually
– fit images in every way indesign supports (but data merge doesnt)
– applying styles dynamically (character, paragraph, object)
– create qrcodesTheres a 30 day trial which should fit your needs. But pricing is ridiculous low for professional usage.

MemberIndesign requires you to add pathes to the csv.
Instead of
Myimage.jpg
Its
Path:to:Myimage.jpg
If you’re on Mac you may try MyDataMerge (https://mydatamerge.com). You can directly use excel and you don’t need pathes to the images in the excel.

MemberHi judy,
this is not possible without custom scripting or a 3rd party tool.
If you’re on a mac i can recommend MyDataMerge. It has been tested by indesignsecrets.com in IndesignMagazine (https://indesignsecrets.com/issues/issue-122-cross-media-color) and it can do what you need: Multiple Merge on multiple pages, from Excel or CSV and it has an inbuilt sequence generator if the numbers you need are somehow sequencial. There’s a free 30days trial so you may check if its suitable for you.

Memberthis is a little late but you should use professional software for that. We use MyDataMerge for it – easy to use even for more complex scenarios. (checkout MyDataMerge.com)

MemberHi, think the video is down. We already use MyDataMerge extensively. And this task can be done with it easily if you’re on a Mac

MemberYou may also try MyDataMerge for Mac. Inline merge (data merge content, even groups, so they flow in a story) is built in as well as ordering records as you wish (with multiple page support) as well as cut and stack style impositions (interesting for printers) to set up sets and stacks.
Edit: Just recognized you do not want to purchase anything (then you might have to deal with scripting)

MemberYou also may use professional software like MyDataMerge. We’ve solved that task exactly with it. It can collect all images, put them in a folder and re-link them for the merge automatically. If this is interesting for you contact me for details

MemberHi
you could do all of it in one merge instead of first importing the images and then trying to merge the text.
Find a script called “Folder to csv” then you get a cab with your image paths. Combine both your texts and image pathes CSV (expecting they are pre sorted) in one new CSV (e.g. by using excel). Just watch on the title of the images Colin. it has to start with an “@”.
Then import it to Indesigns data merge, create your layout with text and link it to the data merge tags. So you have one page. Then start the merge aNd every image will be placed. And text also.
For the resize you could use a script from loic called “text to frame”.
If you are a more regular user I recommend some more professional software like MyDataMerge (think they are new – but it’s so easy to use)
