    This is somewhat the same as the problem that I am encountering where the the chapter number just does not increment although I have setup the multilevel list properly and in accordance with the Tip that David refers to. I actually have two styles setup…one for restart and one for continue…much like numbered lists in the body of a document.

    The problem is intermittent and the chapter # will stop incrementing at an arbitrary point…apparently of it’s own choice. Once I fix the offending chapter by hard coding the chapter #, it will work fine again…for a while.

    Even stranger, I copied a chapter file from another book, changed to and applied the appropriate masters for the current document, but on update of chapter # in the book menu the chapter number maintained the position from the previous book and incremented accordingly. The chapter styles in each book are the same. Again the workaround was to hard code the chapter Number using the Restart style.
