Baah Humbug. Prepress isn't very helpful, sadly. (Though they are very nice!) They just tell me to keep doing what I'm doing, which is a 7/8 inch inside margin. Personally, I find it too big and would like to go smaller. Have a 8.5L x 5.5W book, 512 pages, perfect bound, 1/2 inch outer margin, 7/8 inch inner margin. Would love to shrink margins and reduce page count, too. But am afraid a) i'll shrink inner margin too much and text will dissapear into spine and b) the book will look too crowded.

Anyway, thanks Eugene for the thorough answer!

sound familiar. had moving text frames happen to me on my last project. just locked them in place and made sure to always insert 2 pages at once (so a L page stayed on the L side and didn't become a R page) — didn't have problems after that.

Need more info. Are all naval ships one word? If not, how would you recognize if 2nd word is a regular word or part of the ship name. Do both have proper capitalization?

Thanks guys. I'll give the highlighting an entire paragraph a try. I have a 500+ page book with lots of paragraphs that break across columns, so I hope it works. Manually putting a box around paragraphs just isn't an option.

Will give you an update when I have one.

BTW, David, I just bought your updated “Real World” inDesign CS4 book. I had the old CS2 one and figured it was time to upgrade! It's still the best inDesign book out there.
