ParticipantMany thanks, Fleur. I’m now using custom style sheets as you suggest and it does solve a lot of problems :-)

ParticipantSome time back I had a similar issue with a faulty Indesign file.
I saved it as an IDML file and then opened the IDML file.
That removed the issue, whatever it was, I never found out :-)

ParticipantMany thanks for the reply, Jeremy.
The index is not relevant to the epub which is complete and there is less urgency for the PDF which does need it. So I can wait.
But it would be good to hear about a work around.
A fall-back plan was to do a manual re-sort which should not be difficult, or take long, since there are only 2 symbols that were not sorted and only a hundred or so entries.
Thanks again

ParticipantI’ve often (very often!) found that just posting a request for help frees up problem solving tools buried a bit below the surface -)
That seems to have happened here. So I’m posting what I found just in case it might help someone else.I exported the book to epub without a custom style sheet just to see what these numbers looked like in html and what classes were created.
I was expecting 421 different classes. one for each image. To my surprise there was just one class “_idGenObjectAttribute-1” applied to all images. So it was easy to control the appearance of all 421 numbers, just by editing that class. I reduced the size a little and had the image float to the right. So now it looks OK in the epub.
Hope this helps someone.

ParticipantProblem solved. The drop cap is now showing as expected after moving away from the idGeneratedSyles.css and just using my own css and tag mapping,

ParticipantComing back to this after a 4 year break!!
My custom css file is working fine.
But The idGenDropCap-1 class is still being created in the idGeneratedSyles.css even through I have the same class (.dropcaps) in my custom css file and use export mapping to link the two.I think I read somewhere (but cannot find the references now) is that the reason that my own dropcap character style is not showing up as the .dropcaps class in the css file is that I have local overrides turned off.
Please could someone confirm this?
Also, a best practice question, is there any value in trying to eliminate all idGen… classes from the idGeneratedSyles.css stylesheet. I have got it down to just 5 out of the 51 classes (3 char and 2 objects) and wonder if its worth while trying to eliminate those. I think I will have to live with the dropcap style being generated.

ParticipantFurther, I do not know I missed this earlier but I just found Anne-Marie Concepción’s tutorial on using Dreamweaver to Edit Epubs. Yeah? :-)
Thanks for prompting me to look again at Lynda.com… David.

ParticipantMany thanks, David, particularly about the Minion Pro being in a Para Style,
It turns out that Calibri was also in an overlooked Para Style. It would be helpful if there was an option to use Find Font to search through styles as well as the document.
I’ve seen a number of references to people using Dreamweaver to fine-tun their epubs, but no specific information about how they do it. There is quite a lot of info about using Calibre and Sigil because those are only used for that purpose. Might be easier just to stick with one of those?
Thanks again for the quick reply.
