MemberWas your original book created as spreads or single pages? I would check for chapters that end on recto pages and on those I would add a blank page at the end. By default, Indesign starts each new document on a recto page. Is that the case with your chapters?
Gustavo Martinez
MemberJust to confirm that is also possible with In-Tools World Tools plugin.

MemberI’m not familiar with Ventura at all. Regarding running headers this might help: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/numbering-pages-chapters-sections.html. And master pages: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/master-pages.html. When you create a new document, Indesign assigns by default an “A” master to all pages. But you customize them according to your needs. In your case you want one master page for the first page of the chapter and a second one for the other pages. You can create as many master pages as needed. As Dwayne says, you just need to become familiar the way Indesign works.

MemberNo problem. I’m working on a second edition of a book where I had to cut some chapters and insert a few more in different places. TextStitch is a lifesaver for this kind of work.

MemberI’m glad you are progressing. Yes, Indesign comes with a script to unthread the whole document in one go. I’m a Windows user basically but I do have a Mac. I just installed from scratch the APID Tool Assistant and TextStitch. It took me a few minutes to figure it out. But finally I can see the API app and TextStitch on ID CC 2014. I had to double click on the unloaded files to unzip them. You’ll see the TextStitch.spln with a green icon. Select it, copy and paste it to plugins on ID CC 2014. You need to do this while ID is not running. Then the next time you open the application and you click on API on the top menu Text Stitch should be just below APID ToolAssistant. If needed reboot your Mac.

MemberI keep saying script and it’s actually a plugin. Just follow the instructions carefully. You basically just need to copy the .spln file to the plugin Adobe CC 2014 file. By the way are you on a Mac or PC?
Gustavo Martinez
MemberThe script works well with the latest Indesign CC 2014. I think you need to download the APID Tool Assistant First.

MemberYeah, this is frustrating and it’s kind of tricky. The best way I found is using a script (free) by Rorohiko: https://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/indesign-downloads/textstitch/. You can easily thread/unthread without causing a havoc. Try it and let us know how it goes.
