    No big deal, Loic :)

I did a simple test, and the metadata did go through.

I’ll check out your script. I’m amazed at you guys who can write scripts. I can’t do ’em.

I had no problem writing Word macros, but scripts just boggle me.

I’m not sure what you mean, loicaigon. What I said does work in the normal use of InDesign and manually exporting a PDF.

I will check out your script, though. Thanks.

    You’re welcome :)

With your InDesign file open, go to “file” and scroll down to “File Info” then click the “Description” tab.

You’ll get the dialogue box where you can put in the title. When you export that file to PDF, that title name will be there.

Sure. Once you make the PDF, go into properties and in the “Title” section, add the information you want. Even if the PDF itself is renamed, the title box info will be the same.

I agree, Masood. The way I think of it is that an anchored object is basically a character (so far as InDesign is concerned).

I”m wondering if it’s because it’s a partition where the images reside. I wouldn’t think that would be the case, but it is possible.

In my workflow, we don’t have the issue of a different job using the same art work from another (except for logos or something). Or if they do share the same art, we copy it to that job.

We have separate folders (including art folders) for each individual job. And that folder also includes the fonts.

So far as external drives, I have a couple I use at home, but that’s mainly for clones of my system, which I do weekly.

But I’m not going to tell you to change your workflow, as apparently it’s worked in the past and that’s what you are used to doing. And if the images are large and take up a lot of space, I could see that packaging them could be a royal pain, and time-consuming.

Something tells me it’s the partition and InDesign is getting lost. Was your previous external drive also partitioned?

Would you be able to put in a second internal hard drive into your computer and store the art on that (instead of an external drive)?

Are you on a Mac or PC?

So I take it that the InDesign folks did know what they were doing and that’s it’s built in?

    Thanks, David.

    in reply to: Accessing a font's kerning table/values? #72873

The last time I had to deal with kerning tables/kerning pairs was in the Quark days. But those were “pairs,” and not individual letters. I do miss that feature in InDesign.

    You’re welcome, Gert.

We originally got XTags back in the Quark days (Quark 4) and when we were using autopage.

Then later on, we starting doing InDesign jobs while also doing Quark jobs. And it was easier to just tag them all the same way, as xags converts to ID coding when importing into Indesign.

And nowadays, though we’re 99 percent InDesign, we are so used to coding and using it, then it’s a time-saver for us. And sometimes the client wants a tagged text file that they can import into InDesign. For those, we tag as Quark, import into InDesign via xTags, and export as a tagged InDesign file.

    It’s very useful for us.

I never used pagemaker (except for doing corrections on a job a client had sent us), but had to use Framemaker a few times for one job (I had to teach myself how to use it).

I have to admit I’m not an expert when it comes to graphics. Hopefully the pros will jump into this thread.

What are your preview settings in InDesign? High quality or normal? I believe normal is the default as high quality really slows down the computer if you have a lot of graphics in the job. Try changing to high quality.

What kind of files are the art? Tiffs, JPG, PSD?

How does the image look when you export as a PDF or print?
