MemberWhat version of InDesign? PC or Mac?
To post a pic, you need to have it stored somewhere like DropBox or something like that.
Dwayne Harris
MemberThanks for stopping back :)
Dwayne Harris
MemberVery impressive, David. I just tried a test and it worked perfectly!
Dwayne Harris
Member^^Does that delete the asterisks as OP wanted?
Dwayne Harris
MemberI think the best you can do is do what David suggests. But I’d also suggest you go to your “indents and spacing” (in your style sheet) and select balance ragged lines. I’m guessing the entries are ragged?
I don’t think there is a way to search on a line ending, as it’s a built in feature of InDesign and there are no special characters to search on when it comes to that.
What kind of job are you working on? Is it entirely a list of names and addresses? Epigraph sources?
Maybe you can post a pic (though you would have to use a image hosting service to do so). I’d mention a few names, but I won’t as maybe that is why my earlier post from a few minutes ago ended up in limbo or was considered spam by the site for some reason.
Maybe if we had an idea of what your project looks like we might be able to come up with a possible solution.

MemberI wonder if that is the problem. I know it used to be recommended that you don’t work on files across a network or the net. That one should work on the file on their main hard drive and then back it up to the server (or Dropbox in your case).
Not unless things have changed and so has the advice.
A month or so back, I had to update a bunch of art on a job and the file and art were huge (almost 20 gigs). It would have taken an hour for me to copy everything to my system. So I decided to update the art by doing it via the server as I thought it would save time. It didn’t. I opened the file on the server and updated the first piece and let InDesign update the rest. Took almost an hour and I had the spinning ball the entire time. It wasn’t InDesign having issues, it was InDesign having to update art across a network.

MemberWhat the heck? My post disappeared :(
TWO posts have now disappeared!

MemberIs the graphic box on the master touching the facing master page?
Dwayne Harris
MemberAre you working on the files via Dropbox or just storing the files there, and working on your local hard drive (and then re-backing up)?
Dwayne Harris
MemberI’m confused about what is wanted. From my reading of Lily’s posts, I get the idea that Lily wants to find all line breaks (whether a forced return or not) and replace them all with a non-breaking space/character. But also insert tabs??
I’m not that good with GREP so I don’t even know if it’s possible to search for automatic line breaks.
Dwayne Harris
MemberI tried a simple experiment that seems to work.
The first thing I did was make a bold style sheet.
I then went to find and change and clicked on the grep tab. I searched for the string you put in. I then went to replace and selected my bold character style sheet. Replaced all.
I then deleted both the search and find fields in the grep area.
Then I clicked on regular search and replace “text” tab.” And searched for an asterisk and replaced with nothing.
Then replaced all.
NOTE: This was just searching and replacing, and not a grep thing to do automatically if new files are imported into the same file.
Just a basic search and replace of a few steps.

MemberIt is a pain in the butt when you have to resize files at times.
But check with you printer. They may be able to shoot it down. You’d have to use PitStop to strip out the old crop marks and put in new ones with the new margins and gutters. And if you have any bleeds, you’d have to make them bigger in the file.
If that’s not possible–it can be time-consuming to resize, especially if there are a lot of master pagesa and none of them are based on another one. Or style sheets that aren’t based on others.
Good luck.

MemberThanks, Mike. I”ll keep that in mind if I ever have to use that font. I’m sure it will be helpful to the OP.
Dwayne Harris
Member^^Good to know. I’m not familiar with the font. I probably should have typed “lining” instead of “tabular.”
I rarely do books with old style figures.
Dwayne Harris
MemberWell, it depends on a few things. Is it a Open Type font or Postscript?
If so, how did you set up the numbers? In your paragraph style (under open type features)? If so, change the drop down menu from old style to tabular.
Or did you set up character styles for it? In that case, you can also change it there?
Or did you use grep in your paragraph styles?
Or did you search and replace on the figures to make them old style?
