David BlatnerKeymasterI think you need to create and use two different LISTS. One for “shelves” and one for “position,” etc. Each list will increase separately. It is like having 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 3a, and so on. See https://creativepro.com/multi-level-automatic-numbering-in-indesign.php
David BlatnerKeymasterTry clicking No, to clear the Recovery files.
But if that still doesn't work, then, yes, I agree with the part about removing the files from “InDesign Recovery”. Sometimes files get stuck in there for some reason.
David BlatnerKeymasterSorry we didn't reply to the email, Eelco. As you can imagine, we get a huge amount of email. That's one of the reasons we wanted to start the forum! ;)
I think the automatic page number feature should work for you, but you would need to be very careful about the order of objects (the order in which each frame is created), and the styles you apply to Restart Numbering each time, and so on. It is not an easy project. Might be better to create it with a plug-in such as InData from emsoftware.com, which is more powerful than data merge.
David BlatnerKeymasterI'm sorry, but I don't think there is any way to set this up with relative links such as “../images/foo.pdf”. I don't think ID can do that. I didn't know that Acrobat could! Hm.
David BlatnerKeymasterMike Rankin is the king of the eye candy, so perhaps he'll chime in here. But perhaps there's something you can do with a custom stroke style, such as the ones on this page?
David BlatnerKeymasterThere is a slightly more focused grep expression in this Link (it makes the space before the last word in the paragraph no break).
Unfortunately, text can always reflow when moving from one version to another (especially backward). That's why I like the “don't reflow text until it gets edited” feature in InDesign. Everything is (or should be) locked in place unless you go in and change something in the story.
Note that Blatner Tools (for cs3 and cs4) also has a feature that can find runts for you automatically. (The proper word is not widow or orphan, it's “short last line” or “runt”).
David BlatnerKeymasterHi folks… just a quick note: We're having a problem with this new forum software: New posts don't appear to show up to you in the thread when you click Save New Post or Save New Topic. But other people can see them. if you log out and log back in, they should be there. Very frustrating. We'll get it fixed as quickly as we can. But don't panic if you don't see your post immediately.
David BlatnerKeymasterKasyan: Cool! Thank you so much. I'll check it out as soon as I can. (Once the new forum problems get figured out.)

David BlatnerKeymasterWhat do I do? I write a lot about InDesign! I also design plug-ins (dtptools.com/bt) and I help produce InDesign Magazine. I love your idea of asking what people do, docbud. It's always fun to get a sense of that.
David BlatnerKeymasterThanks, Harbs and Garricks. We still have some kinks to work out… some forum posts aren't showing up for some reason. Thanks for the patience.
