This post may or may not help with the wrong page numbers:

    https://creativepro.com/book-panel-shows-wrong-page-number-fixed.php

As for the section start checkbox: It is always grayed out for the first page of the document (because that's always a section start). Which document page are you trying to change? Are you double-clicking on the little black triangle above that page?

Search for “data merge” in the search field at indesignsecrets.com and you will find a number of movies and tips about it.

Does it happen with all documents or just this one?

Is it PDF or SWF export, too?

Are you in CS4 or CS5? Mac? Windows?

Are the pages set up as spreads, or is facing pages turned off in file > document setup?

You can find similar objects on the same spread with a plug-in such as likefindslike: https://www.rorohiko.com/wordpr…..findslike/

But you cannot select objects on different spreads at the same time. Limitation of InDesign. You can use find/change to change objects throughout a document.

You should be able to go back to the program that made the PDF (illustrator? indesign?), scale it to 10% there, and then export the PDF again.

However, I personally, would not worry about it. I would probably just ignore the preflight “error.”

It's a tricky thing… on the one hand, you'll get the smallest results by printing to postscript and using Acrobat Distiller. But you'll lose hyperlinks, bookmarks, etc., so that may not be so good for an interactive experience. I would suggest:

    Acrobat 6 compatibility

Turn off Tagged PDF (won't be accessible or as searchable, etc. but perhaps a bit smaller? I need to do some tests on that.)

Set compression to 150 ppi, jpeg (jpeg 2000 might even smaller, but it's not supported by all pdf readers)

Set image quality to Medium (good enough for onscreen usually)

Set output to convert to destination (preserve numbers), choose sRGB as the target, and say “Include Profiles” (the CMYK profile takes up a lot of space, but since you're converting to sRGB, the rgb profile is only a few K).

Make sure that font subsetting is set to 100%, not zero percent (so you do get subsetting).

Is it truly Read Only, or is it just opening on her end as Untitled?

Also, as a recent convert from QX, you might want to check out this excellent (if I do say so myself) guide to converting:

    https://adobe.com/products/inde…..nguide.pdf

That's a 8 MB PDF with lots of comparisons and tips and such. Definitely best to view it in Acrobat (not Preview or some other pdf viewer, as there's animations and a few movies.)

Bunne, ID has all the same features as QX in this regard, I believe. You can ignore the frame fitting features entirely. Just place an image, then hold down Command-Shift (or Ctrl-Shift on PC) and drag a corner with the black arrow selection tool to scale the frame and its contents.

To see the image scaling, you need to select the image (as opposed to the frame): Double-click on it to select the image. Double-click again to select the frame. (Yes, the Links panel is also a good method.)

It does sound weird. But it sounds like an Acrobat problem, not InDesign. People think that Acrobat is perfect, but it is far from it, especially when it comes to onscreen display.

Sounds like you know what you're doing though. The prepress company would be crazy not to hire you. :)

The only thing that I can think of is that perhaps it is Acrobat that is displaying it incorrectly. Is it bold even if you zoom in on it in Acrobat? What if you change the display settings in Acrobat's preferences?

I would check out a more advanced “merge” tool, such as InData from emsoftware.com. DataMerge is good for simple merge; XML is good if you like taking ibuprofen; third-party plug-ins are the way to go “for the rest of us.”

I think InDesign makes more sense. I would just do a 2 page document. One page front, and one page back. If the final output is an inkjet printer, choose edit > transparency space > RGB, so that you can get more rich colors. I would probably use RGB color swatches, too, even for text.

I do not think there is any benefit of a jpg newsletter! That sounds terrible. I think PDF would be much better.

Sounds like an Acrobat problem. I would check the Page Display pane of the Acrobat preferences dialog box. Weird.
