David BlatnerKeymasterThat’s a hard one. How many colors?
David BlatnerKeymasterThat’s awesome. I always wanted to do that with one of our large books. I’m sure it could be scripted, but I don’t recall seeing one.
David BlatnerKeymasterInteresting! So you want an automated “find/change” that changes everything in the spreadsheet? You may be able to find a way to convert the spreadsheet into a file that findchangebylist.jsx could use. However, I wonder if MultiFindChange (from https://automatication.com) would work?
David BlatnerKeymasterCan you provide more information? Are you talking about removing text from InDesign, then translating it, and then putting it back in to InDesign? I do not know of any way to do that.
The Data Merge feature in InDesign can merge CSV data into an InDesign file.
David BlatnerKeymasterThat is weird. Ghost folder! I haven’t run into that. The only thing I can think of is maybe use a symbolic link instead of an alias. It’s geeky to create, but maybe that would work?
David BlatnerKeymasterYou can use the Object > Transform Again feature for some things:
https://creativepro.com/transform-again-rescue.phpOr you could use this add-on:

David BlatnerKeymasterGus: I think chapter numbers only work when you have multiple documents in a book panel. You need to use File > New > Book to create a book panel. I strongly urge you to read up about how books and long documents work before you go any farther. I have a number of movies at lynda.com on this subject. If you don’t have a subscription, you can watch 7 days for free with this link: https://www.lynda.com/trial/indesignsecrets
The fact that there is a red + symbol is an indication that the text is overset, so it may simply not be fitting inside the text frame. Again, check out my Essential Training course or read a good book on InDesign for more information about overset text, long docs, and variables.
David BlatnerKeymasterGus: Actually, that still works. But you need to double-click the little black triangle. There are not too many changes between CS2 and CS6, actually! (I mean, there are, but not in the area of long documents.)
David BlatnerKeymasterGustavo: We need to know what you want to DO to the text. Maybe you do not have to select it at all to make the change. You can use Edit > Find/Change, or you Type > Find Font, or — the best idea — use Paragraph styles (or character styles).
David BlatnerKeymasterYou set the Numbering & Section Options dialog box to “automatic numbering”? And the documents have been added to a book panel?

David BlatnerKeymasterThere is no way to select separate words like that at the same time. But the Edit > Find/Change dialog box will let you search for a word or a phrase and format them or change them.
If you want to change the formatting of the first word of every sentence, you will need to use a Nested Style or a GREP Style.
David BlatnerKeymasterYou would probably want to get the data out of the email and into a spreadsheet. Then you could use Data Merge to merge that information into the InDesign file. I have a title on Data Merge at lynda.com that explains that process. (Though I don’t talk about getting data from email into a spreadsheet. That might be tricky.)
David BlatnerKeymasterWhat do you want the alert to do? Do you mean, you want a dialog box? Or read it aloud?
The table of contents feature can “collect” all the text in a particular paragraph style.
