David BlatnerKeymasterRich: I thought that was a new thing on the Mac, and was perhaps due to a new version of the OS? But maybe I’m wrong. I agree it’s annoying.
David BlatnerKeymasterDo you mean a real text variable? If so, you can just use the code
~vwhich finds any text variable.
David BlatnerKeymasterI think Data Merge is really terrible for doing calendars. I would suggest a template or script instead, such as:

David BlatnerKeymasterIt may be that the Kindle device is overriding the settings. In my opinion, one should never get too attached to how something will look when creating a reflowable epub or Kindle book.
David BlatnerKeymasterInDesign itself doesn’t do that, but there are third-party tools that can help, including:
and

Both of these can save many hours of time, making the small cost worthwhile.
David BlatnerKeymasterIt sounds like you were using the ME version of InDesign before, and now perhaps you’re using the US or English version. The ME (Middle Eastern) version can do right-to-left. You can get those features into the English version with scripts or with a plug-in:

David BlatnerKeymasterYou could make one paragraph style “based on” another. I typically make a “body” style and then a “first paragraph after heading body” style (which is based on body, but has no first line indent)
David BlatnerKeymasterYes, if you want to sever the link to the Google Doc, you can do that. I believe you choose “Embed” from the Links panel. Check the DocsFlow documentation for details, though.
David BlatnerKeymasterThat is VERY strange. I have not heard of those buttons not working.
Try visiting File > Recently Published… does the document appear there?
David BlatnerKeymasterI wish that Adobe included a big notice that said: “Your plug-ins will definitely stop working when you upgrade, and your scripts might stop working.” That is always the truth.
Here are my thoughts on upgrading: https://creativepro.com/should-adobe-fix-older-versions-of-programs/

David BlatnerKeymasterNot with the built-in footnotes feature. Maybe with a custom script?
