David BlatnerKeymasterLaura: Regarding TIF vs JPEG, yes there is definitely a difference. However, as long as you’re not re-saving the JPG repeatedly, and you’re using a High Quality jpeg, it’s usually not terrible. But JPEG is lossy. You can read all about file formats here:
https://creativepro.com/tiff-vs-psd-vs-eps-vs-pdf-vs.phpWolfgang: I don’t mean to offend, but you really need to join us in the 21st century. I agree that CMYK preview is important, but you can do that without damaging your images. (Converting to CMYK = massive damage.) Here are some suggestions:
David BlatnerKeymasterHard to know what’s going on, but I strongly suggest rebuilding your preferences:

David BlatnerKeymasterThis is hard. Perhaps you could edit the object style to have a spot color fill (assuming the frames have no fill already). But then you’d need to delete all the images (there’s a script to do that) before printing that plate… hm…
If all the images are on their own layer, you could dupe the layer on each spread, then hide the one with the real images, run a script to delete the images on the dupes and fill with spot… would have to be done one each spread, though.
David BlatnerKeymasterJack, did you ever investigate Indexmatic?
https://www.indiscripts.com/category/projects/IndexMaticIt’s going to be hard to get a script (or even a commercial tool) to give you exactly what you want without custom work, which should involve a fee to the coder.
David BlatnerKeymasterOh! Well yes, that is strange. Are you viewing it in Acrobat? Or some other PDF viewer?
I’m using CC 2017 and I make PDF/X-4 files all the time with bleed.
David BlatnerKeymasterThere are tools available for indexing, but the best solution is to hire a professional indexer. We have a list of some of them here: https://creativepro.com/indexers
But if you want to do it yourself, you might check out some of these options (read the comments for more, too):

David BlatnerKeymasterYou don’t get bleed in a PDF/X4 unless you turn on the “use document bleed settings” (or set them yourself). That’s the way it has always been, I think. (Annoying, but it’s just one more thing you need to check when making a PDF.)
David BlatnerKeymasterA script could probably be written, but I just have to say that there is a slightly simpler (and better) answer: Stop converting your RGB images to CMYK before placing them in InDesign! That’s so 20th century! :-)

David BlatnerKeymasterHi Kelli, that’s awesome that you want to learn how to script InDesign! This sounds like a great example of something that could be scripted.
(As others have said: If it were just 4 or 5 words, then grep styles would be okay. But if you had 20 or 200 or more words, then a script is the way to go!)
Here are some resources for learning scripting:

David BlatnerKeymasterYou can move pages around with the Pages panel. I didn’t say you cannot do that. I simply meant that when a left-hand page turns into a right-hand page, that can cause issues (depending on how your master pages are set up).
David BlatnerKeymasterSaeid: I’m sorry, but I do not use the ME version of InDesign, so I cannot help you. Perhaps someone else here on the forum knows the answer. Are you using the ME version of InDesign or are you using a tool such as WorldTools from In-Tools, which give you ME features in the English version?
David BlatnerKeymasterCarole, when you add or remove a single page in a facing-pages document, the master page items get applied/re-applied/changed. It’s hard to know what exactly is happening in your situation, but it’s almost certainly to do with how your master pages were set up.
In other words, when you add a page, then your left-hand pages turn into right-hand pages, and vice versa. That can cause issues.
David BlatnerKeymasterKaila: I know what it’s like to be trying to start a business. Good luck!
Yes, 5mm is 14.173 pt.
Treat yourself this weekend to a week-long free trial at Lynda.com using this link. Watch my “getting started with InDesign” title there and you’ll learn a lot in just 30 minutes. Then jump to the Essential Training course and you’ll learn a bunch more. You can learn a lot in a week! -
