David BlatnerKeymasterHi JR. Unfortunately, the folder is empty when I look in it. You can also email a link to me directly at David at indesignsecrets.com
(but please don’t send me huge files via email) :-)
David BlatnerKeymasterInteresting. Are these links to URLs (like, web sites?) or to other documents or something else? Maybe you could make a sample document with fake text where you find this problem, and upload it to a sharing site (like dropbox) and put the link here to the INDD file so we can test it?

David BlatnerKeymasterHi Debbie, I’m glad our work has been helpful for you! :-)
No, the GPU acceleration is just in CC, not CS6.
Unfortunately, what you describe is very hard to figure out. I’ve had it happen to me, and then it just goes away. It could be fonts, or InDesign preferences… Be sure you have the latest version of whatever version you have of InDesign. Sometimes quitting the app and launching again can help.
But if the shortcut (or zooming in/out) helps, then you know that the screen disappearing isn’t “real.” That is, it’s not really deleting anything. It’s just InDesign not drawing the screen properly.
David BlatnerKeymasterHm. That is very odd. So, when you open the INDD file in InDesign, and look in the Hyperlinks panel, it is empty? Just your computer or on other computers, too? If she downloads it from the google drive and opens it up herself, are the hyperlinks gone?
David BlatnerKeymasterYou’re talking about hyperlinks inside a PDF? Are you using character styles for the hyperlinks? If so, perhaps make sure the character style applied to the hyperlinks is set to something visible (such as a color and underlined) in the CMYK version.
David BlatnerKeymasterYou shouldn’t have to open it in TextEdit, I think. Here’s some information about installing scripts:

David BlatnerKeymasterI’m not sure if this will work for you, but maybe?

David BlatnerKeymasterColin Flashman wrote up a wild trick using the Chartwell font here:

David BlatnerKeymasterSounds like a weird screen redraw bug. Next time it happens, try pressing command-option-/ (slash) and see if that redraws the page properly.

David BlatnerKeymaster@Susan: Is there a dotted line around the object? If not, then it’s possible that someone turned off “Allow Master Overrides on Selection” while on the master page. When that is off, there is no way to override a master page object.
David BlatnerKeymasterYeah, InDesign cannot export DXF files.
Olav Martin Kvern uses ID for CAD:
https://indesignsecrets.com/indesign-cad-tool.phpAnother option might be to export as PDF and open in Illustrator.
David BlatnerKeymasterOh believe me this is a battle we’ve been fighting for years. InDesign is a wonderful presentation tool… but PDF is less than optimal sometimes.
Sometimes HTML is better… for example, you can export as a fixed layout EPUB (FXL) as long as your computer has a suitable reader (all new Macs and iOS devices do great). Publish Online is another option, if you’re online. Another option is the in5 plugin from ajarproductions, which has some terrific presentation features.

David BlatnerKeymasterOK, this is embarrassing: I just discovered this old forum thread that never got answered. But here’s one solution to the problem:

David BlatnerKeymasterWow that sounds frustrating. Not sure what’s going on with the crashing, but note that video in Acrobat does still require Flash. I wonder if something is going wrong with Flash on that computer.
