David BlatnerKeymasterYes, Publish Online is based entirely on Adobe ID.
This is actually a problem for many companies because if one person publishes with their own ID and then leaves the company… well, no one has access to that document anymore.
David BlatnerKeymasterOh wow… so each one of those clues (below the puzzle) is a placed version of the PDF?!
And the clues are always in the same place?
In my tests, I’m getting the result that I think you want… I place the image 3 times, cropping each one differently. Then I select the master image in the Links panel (one click) and then I click the Relink button and choose a different image. All three frames update properly, and the puzzle and clues stay where they’re supposed to be.
I don’t think Data Merge will work for this, but in theory you could get a script made that could do what you need.
David BlatnerKeymasterLOL… That’s very funny. No, you’re not missing anything. We just haven’t implemented any kind of image upload feature here. Two options:
- Put the image on a site such as Imgur.com or some other photo-sharing site and then add the link here
- Or, if you’re on facebook, join our group on facebook and you can post images there.
David BlatnerKeymasterDo you need interactive features, such as buttons, video, or animations? If not, then PDF may still be the best option for you.
Another option might be to have a link to a printable PDF. That’s kind of what they offer in the File > Publish Online feature.
David BlatnerKeymasterIf you want to update all the links with the same name at the same time, you should be able to click the “master image” in the Links panel (it has a tiny triangle next to it, indicating that the individual images are inside/under it). Then Update or Relink that.
I have no idea if this will help… perhaps not, but it might be interesting:
Referencing pages of a multi-page PDF file during data merge… workaround

David BlatnerKeymasterNiklas, sorry for the delay in getting this on the forum. It was being held for moderation for some mysterious reason.
1. You could use a grep code to limit it to just 1, 2, or 3 digits. For example,
\d{1,3}
2. no. But you can press the letter D when nothing is selected to return to defaults.
3. no, I don’t think so.
4. you can only add objects to a library, not pages
5. no cell and table styles do not allow “geometry” or size. Frustrating, I know!
6. That sounds like a mystery.
David BlatnerKeymasterUnfortunately, I’ve never found a workaround to this. Because of this, I usually just use Acrobat to compile/collect PDFs together.

David BlatnerKeymasterI have experienced problems playing videos, but it’s usually related to Flash, not Acrobat, and I haven’t seen the crashing problems. Have you tried running these PDFs on a different computer? Same result or different? Does this happen with all PDFs, or just new ones you’re making?

David BlatnerKeymasterIt might be easier to use something like Data Merge and then use some other tool to break the INDD file into smaller pieces. Or even easier, use Data Merge to make a PDF and then use Acrobat to split a big PDF into smaller pdfs.
e.g.:

David BlatnerKeymasterI rarely use align to baseline grid. Other people swear by it. Like so many things in InDesign, there are many ways to do the same thing.
David BlatnerKeymasterAffinity Photo?! Isn’t that primarily a pixel editor? If you want to build equations by hand, why not use Adobe Illustrator?
Of course, if you have a ton of equations, you’d be better of using a tool like MathTools from movemen.com
David BlatnerKeymaster@Monisha: I think what you are describing is a different problem. Are you on facebook? If so, I would suggest posting on fb.com/groups/indesignsecrets and show an image of what is happening.
But this video might also help:
