David BlatnerKeymasterGreat to hear it, Linda. Wow. What a project! I hope everything goes smoothly from now on.
David BlatnerKeymasterHey, speaking of writing directly in InDesign… I just noticed that the LAIDUG group is doing a meeting on this very topic next week:

David BlatnerKeymasterWatching a movie is one of my favorite “solutions.” :-)
Linda, if you want me to take a look at it, Package it, zip it, and email me a link directly. I’ll see if the problem happens to me. (I think you have my email right? Just “david at…”
David BlatnerKeymasterIf you don’t have collaborators, then the only reasons I can think of using InCopy would be:
- Streamlined user interface (less distracting)
- You can’t procrastinate for 2 hours designing a page when you’re supposed to be writing
Personally, I’d much rather type in a word processor such as Word or Google Docs, and then import into InDesign. But lots of people type directly into InDesign. Don’t forget the Story Editor for typing!

David BlatnerKeymasterIDML is the best way to remove corruption in the file itself. If that doesn’t work, then I’d start wondering about elements inside the document. For example: are there any fonts used in this file that aren’t in other? what if you delete all the images, Save As, and then try changes? What if you try deleting all the color swatches, then do a Save As, and then try changes? I know those are crazy, radical things, but it may be helpful in identifying what part of the file is messed up.
When you say you erase the old style, do you mean you delete it and when it says it’s in use, you choose the new style? If you try replacing it with some other old style that was already there, does that work?
David BlatnerKeymasterUnfortunately, there is no way to split a row or cell across two frames… you can kind of fake it by adding additional rows, but of course if the table reflows you’ll have to fix it manually, too.
David BlatnerKeymasterI don’t remember seeing anything about formatting. I doubt that’s possible.
David BlatnerKeymasterHere’s an article and a video about InDesign’s Autocorrect feature:

David BlatnerKeymasterYes, I have had that happen, Marc. But it’s inconsistent. Today edit original seems to be working (updating automatically) just fine. It maybe an operating system thing… like the computer may need to be restarted?
