MemberData Merge could help for certain parts of the catalogue such as the pages laid out like pages 6-12 of the catalogue. This could be done by making one record, then creating a merged file using multiple record layout.
However, this would only make the certain pages of the catalogue, it wouldn’t lay out the entire catalogue.
I’d imagine that the project would need to have several parts, such as:
* Cover (outside front/inside front/inside back/outside back)
* preliminary pages at the front which are bespoke
* automated pages such as pages 6-12
* full page advertisements and testimonials.
That said, it is also worth googling “create real estate catalog automatically” because from memory, there are premade solutions dedicated to this task that can take in RETML that the company’s CRM should be able to export.Colin Flashman
MemberSorry I’m late to the party everyone.
The opening poster did contact me directly, but can share the following information. This was given to me by one of the InDesign developers some time ago, but not a lot has changed (with the exception of being able to import HEIC and SVG). Their response is as follows:
_____________
I just double checked and found that any file that can be imported (File > Place) into InDesign are supported via Data merge. The image type supported for ID 14.0.2 are:
PNG
PSD
PDD
PCX
BMP
RLE
GIF
SCT
CT
TIF
TIFF
JPG
JPEG
JPE
PCTWe also support and Data Merge is widely used for vectors like:
AI
EPS
PDF
Having said that, please note that some other file types can also be imported into InDesign (hence can also be used in Data Merge). There isn’t an explicit support for them, but they should organically work.IDMS: IDMS is not an importable file format but rather a group of different items which can be created/placed in InDesign. By this I mean that when an IDMS is bought into InDesign it, it break into its more granular level placing each of the asset which constituted it. Hence what user is seeing is correct and expected.
Text-file: They also are not image formats and hence will not work.
Multi page documents/artworks: Yes only first page gets imported via Data Merge

MemberI don’t think you can use colons in this context other than to differentiate between what is a MATMSG field and what is the data for that field.
If you’re working on a Mac, you may wish to consider a paid solution that makes it far easier to make QR Codes for data merges: https://mydatamerge.com/Colin Flashman
MemberIt sounds like LIVE captions are being used rather than STATIC captions. Make sure the captions are the static variety of caption.
In Dave’s original post, note that he also says “see the comments also”. In the original article, there is a comment from me (the second comment in the comments thread) pointing to an Adobe Bridge script that adds the filename to the Description field, minus its file extension. Perhaps have a look at that as this will allow LIVE captions without the suffix.

MemberJust an update on the suggestion of the Terry Burton suggestion mentioned earlier.
My work recently had a barcode knocked back by GS1 that was made using this website, was to do with the widths of the bars within the barcode.
Caveat Emptor.

MemberI may be of some assistance, I’ve written several data merge scripts and write about it on my own blog http://www.colecandoo.com – have a read of some of the articles there, and if you still have questions, contact me through my site.

MemberNavigate to your paragraph style and go to the bullets and numbering. Under the “list type” dropdown is another dropdown for “list”. What does this say? If it says [default] what happens if you make a new list style by clicking on the dropdown and selecting New List… ?

MemberHow about we “flip the script” here – show us the script that you have, and the scripters here may be able to diagnose the fault.
If this is a commercially sensitive script and can’t be posted here, I’ll completely understand. Just be aware though that many scripters will feel the same way about providing their own scripts to you for the purpose of beta-testing your product.
I’m aware of one script that Rorohiko may do what you’re after, it’s called textstitch: https://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/indesign-downloads/textstitch/

MemberI’m probably way off the mark here, but have you tried Gerald Singelmann’s table column script? https://www.indesign-faq.de/en/autocolumn2

MemberFirst, the images have to be unembedded. Check out this link for a script that will do that: https://indisnip.wordpress.com/2011/02/21/easy-way-to-unembed-all-embedded-links/
From there, the actual links need to be made as PDF from EPS – something I’d do by opening the EPS in Adobe Illustrator and resaving the files.

MemberColin Flashman here, the author of the script being discussed.
Sometimes, there are reasons that I don’t post the scripts to my website. It can be a commercial in-confidence, it may still be under alpha or beta testing, or I just don’t think it’s popular enough to warrant spending time in developing. In this case, the script was a bespoke request. That said, if you have an interest in the script, please contact me directly via my website – colecandoo.com. By doing this, I can also email any updates to the script in case there are issues with the script.

MemberRoland Dreger has a script that does something like this: https://www.rolanddreger.net/de/276/fotobuch-mit-adobe-indesign/#

MemberNot sure if you’ve read Peter Kahrel’s Script UI guide: https://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/scriptui.html
You will need to replace the dropdownlist with a listbox… as I found lately, there’s no real way of controlling a dropdownlist length like this, but it should work with a listbox (p24 of the guide)
