Anne-Marie ConcepcionMemberOh my gosh, Jongware … you don't look *anything* like how I pictured. (Something more like this) LOL
Anne-Marie ConcepcionMemberInteresting question! I don't know of any offhand, but maybe someone will chime in.
Have you tried isolating the shadows and placing just a few representative ones on the ID pasteboard? Then you could experiment with replicating the shadows w/ID's tools, and save the ones that come close and that you use a lot in an ID library.
You can isolate a shadow effect from its layer in Photoshop … can't remember the exact command though. You're actually creating a real layer from an effect. Right-click on the shadow effect, the command should be there.

Anne-Marie ConcepcionMemberWhen you click Ignore All, the word is added to the Ignored Word list for the document. You can view these and delete them from the list (meaning they'll be flagged again) by going to Edit > Spelling > Dictionary and choosing Ignored Words from the Dictionary List dropdown menu there.

Anne-Marie ConcepcionMemberAh yes, you're right. Hmmph. Maybe it's the autonumbers/bullets that have been tweaked between CS3 and CS4.
I was able to get the same final effect in CS4 by filling the circle with Paper as before, and then from the Effects panel, setting the circle's Fill to the Hue blend mode. Assuming the type is black, that keeps the circle white regardless of the underlying pixels.
Does that work for you?
Anne-Marie ConcepcionMemberThe stacking order of anchored objects did not change between 3 and 4; they still appear “in back” of text in the frame.
I just think something when glitchy with your frames. I was able to recreate the effect (very clever!) in CS4 … I'm still using your character style for the number but my own paragraph style. Here's a CS4 snippet you can download: https://bit.ly/25GhwD
Let me know if that works for you.

Anne-Marie ConcepcionMemberRight, KC. It's simple really. Import each Word doc into a separate InDesign layout. Then add the InDesign layouts to the Book with Add Documents.
I'm not sure which books you were looking through, but one of the best places to start is the online help. Here is the page that explains how you add files to a book:

Anne-Marie ConcepcionMemberActually what needs to be done is you need to delete the entire InDesign Recovery folder, which may hold multiple temp files. You can see a free movie on how to do so in my Lynda.com title on Troubleshooting InDesign:
https://www.lynda.com/home/Disp…..lpk2=47762
Deleting the entire folder doesn't harm ID at all … and rebuilding preferences doesn't touch the Recovery Files.
Hank Scorpio (love that episode btw), your path is correct for CS2 (v4) Windows, but for CS3 (v5) and CS4 (v6), the Recovery folder was moved to a new place, inside a Caches folder.
Mac: User/Library/Caches/InDesign/[version]/InDesignRecovery
Windows XP: C:Documents and Settings[Your_Account]Local SettingsApplication DataAdobeInDesign[version]CachesInDesign Recovery
Windows 7: C:Users[Your_Account]AppDataLocalAdobeInDesign[version]CachesInDesign Recovery
Thanks to Bob L. for the Windows 7 path!

What do I do? I write a lot about InDesign!
You're kidding! And here I thought you were a bon vivant.

At the moment I'm being forced to work in Quark

Ouch! My sympathies. But there are a number of people who need to know and work in both InDesign and QuarkXPress. I'm curious, which version of QXP are you using?
