      Hi All

I'm prety new to InDesign having used Quark for the last 10 years or so.

Whilst working on come posters I have stumbled across the dreaded discoloured boxes problem when using transparency, both when printing to a printer in my office and also when printing a pdf that I have output…

I have read the pages with the 'fixes' but am still suffering with problems.

      1) I sawa a fix saying to add a blank psd file the size of your whole document between any transparency effects and the background colour. This seems to work but on further investigation, it just cause the whole of the background colour to be discololured so isn't really that great an option..

      2) I saw something mention to convert spot coloured background to CMYK colours…however the document I am currently having a problem with has a background which needs to be 100 Cyan…I have it set as such usingt he CMYK Cyan colour swatch but I'm still having the problem…

      3) Slightly different but for some reason when I have an image with tranparency over lapping another image, when printed out I get grey outlines of the underlying image showing through the top image as show below:

I have tried all sorts of different things to try to get this working properly but so far it's not worked and is proving to be a bit of a pain. I thought moving to InDesign would be a good move as I was using Quark v5 which was really old but when it comes to transparency it's so far been a bit of a headache…

      Have you tried these

      https://creativepro.com/eliminating-ydb-yucky-discolored-box-syndrome.php

      https://creativepro.com/eliminating-the-white-box-effect.php

If you used 100% cyan then it’s not a spot colour, it will just output on the Cyan plate at 100%.

It’s very hard to tell what your issue is though – can you post images of the problems in points 1 and 2?

Even if you want to supply sample files to look at.

I suspect the outline on images is Flattening issue, and on your own printer probalby. Have you got PS drivers for your printer? How did it look on a PDF? How did it output from PDF?

If these lines show up on your pdf only and not on printouts it is probably a flattening issue and the pdf should be fine. We get this regularly and there are Acrobat prefs you can change that should get rid of this artefacts viewing issue.
If you go to Acrobat prefs / Page display and untick Smooth Line Art & Smooth images they should disappear.
