      I'm on a MAC.

Working on a project in InDesign 3 and was asked to export a file to XML format. The original InDesign file contained art with names that were 30+ characters in length including the extension. After export the names of the art were “shorter” than the original name.

The shorten name appears on both the art name and the callout in the xml file.

Is there a character limit (31)for these art names on export?

      Thanks

      MG

Not sure about “indesign 3” (perhaps you mean CS3?).

I just tried from CS5 with a 96-character image file name and it worked fine.

Sorry – Yes it was CS3.

We also tried it in CS4 and the result was the same as CS3.

      Thanks for the info.

Actually, I just tried this in CS3 and CS4 and it worked fine for me.

I wonder if you're having some other problem. For example, perhaps there are spaces or other characters in the file names that are causing problems?

I have found that if you select the export xml option <Original Images> in the images tab, that it will truncate the image name in the images folder AND in the xml file.

Do you think this is a bug?
