      Hello everyone!

I’ve recently stumbled upon WordsFlow from Em Software (https://emsoftware.com/products/wordsflow/) and I want to find out your opinion on the software.

I usually work on big books (500-1200 pages) that we revise every year. The workflow is the ‘classic’ one: export the book to Word, send to author, get it back with tracked edits, insert edits back into InDesign. (Don’t ask me about InCopy, everyone hates me when I bring it up)

WordsFlow shows a lot of promise, but I am concerned on how it would perform with large chapters (100-200 pages, Letter) that have many paragraph (over 30) and character (over 10) styles in InDesign and how it will handle manuscripts with hundreds, sometimes a thousand edits (per chapter).

Anyone got experience with it? Would love to know you thoughts and maybe some other software similar or better to WordsFlow.

      All the best!

WordsFlow is pretty amazing. Not sure how well it would work on a long book like that. Are you talking about 1200 pages in a single document, with one story? Or do you break it up into smaller pieces?

        Hi David!

We break the book in chapters, each chapters has around 100 to 200 letter sized pages, some might reach 300 pages tops.

Thank you for replying! You are Anne-Marie are doing a wonderful job with everything InDesign!

      Alexandro–

(Chris Ryland here, Em Software chief dogsbody.)

Why not give it a whirl? There’s a free 15-day trial and we can extend that if you really need it.

We do have users with massive manuscripts. If you have a fast machine with plenty of RAM (and the patience to wait if it takes a while), it might well work just fine. Hard to know without seeing your files.

      I hope this is helpful.

Oh, wow, pleasant surprise to hear from the creators.

Will surely give it a try! Thank you for the trial extension offer too!

I mainly wanted to make sure it can handle hundreds of pages combined with the tenths of styles each .indd file has before I would go to the trial. But indeed, you can’t know for sure unless you try it yourself.

        Will report back ASAP.

        Thanks for the replies!

        All the best!

The number of styles really shouldn’t matter at all.

And 100 pages doesn’t sound extreme at all.

So, yes, give it a try–I think you might be pleasantly surprised.
