Word styles in InDesign

      Good day,

Like most people I often receive texts in MS Word format that I bring into InDesign.

Most people will apply italic and bold from the formatting palette instead of using Styles.

Once in InDesign, I am looking for a way to automate the process of “transforming” those manually applied italic and bold into Character styles already found in my ID document.

I know of the script that creates styles based on what is found in the text, but that is not what I looking for.

I would like something that will scan my entire document, and when it finds text in bold will apply the bold character style I already have in my ID document. Same for italic, etc.

I seem to recall reading about a script that would make this possible but can't find the reference to it.

      I hope someone can help.

      Thank you,

      Stephane

      Stephane,

In stead of doing it in CS, create some small macro's in Word asigning char styles in MSWord to italic, bold etc. If you give them the same names as the ones you create in CS, there's no problem anymore. You can apply a parastyle and the italics will stay as char styles.

      There you go.

I find it best to import the word file into a blank indesign document first – then a run the script.

Then copy and paste it into the layout.
