So here is the deal… I love the idea of quick apply but have never been able to use it really well. I do a lot of styling of paragraphs that includes automatic application of next style. So far I haven't been able to use quick apply because it's lack of applying that next style. Is there a magic undocumented key command that lets you apply the next paragraph style? if not this should be an easy thing for CS5 to add. If it isn't to late developers i would really like to request this simple fix that seems more like an over-site to the original quick apply than an actual feature.

oh wait… i might be ranting for no reason. Can anybody help me quick apply with next style? Currently I am command clicking the style name in the Paragraph Styles Panel.

I don't know of any secret way to use Quick Apply with Next Style. Sorry. It's a good idea for a feature.

Well I don't know of a way for Quick Apply to do this, but for anyone wanting to know how to do the trick of Applying the Next Style (once configured in the Paragraph Styles) is to select two consecutive paragraphs, then right click or cmd click the Paragraph Style that should be the First Style, that gives you the option to Apply that Style and then the Next Style

Also, I find that if you just replace the paragraph return at the end of a sentence with a new return it applies the next style.

Find and Replace won't do it. You have to manually insert a new carriage return.

      Might be quicker that way.

I've also noticed that if you give the text frame an Object Style and go to the Paragraph Styles of the Object style and choose the first Paragraph Style to be the Style to use then say Apply Next Style in the check box.

It won't work for that current text frame (for some reason, perhaps it does but I'm not doing it right?) but if you copy all the text out of the frame, draw a new text frame, paste the text back in and then Apply the Object Style then the Next Style is applied (may not work perfectly, certainly doesn't in all cases?)

Quick Apply is great, but there are somethings it can't do.

awww man… Yeah I figured there wasn't a way. The replacing the return trick is pretty nice…. not as nice as a quick apply but not bad. I am getting really excited about ID CS5… CS4's features were kept under wraps for so long it almost seemed like nothing was going to be added. That wasn't the truth and I was jumping up and down when I heard about Grep styles, conditional text, and smart guides. I dont know what big feautes I would add now but the small things like this quick apply and form creation would be nice. :)
