Why for the Love of G*D, does indeisgn take SO LONG to copy!!

      I click 2 footer boxes on the master pages. Each one has 1 text variable reference and an page # reference. Both are highlighted. I go to Edit->Copy and WAIT! Over 3 minutes before those 2 tiny boxes are in the clipboard and Indesign is locked while doing it. This is cs5.5.

      Anyone have ANY ideas. Its been driving me crazy for years now!

      Every document or just one or some? Any computer you try it on? That sounds strange to me!

      Pete, I wonder if your machine uses Windows 7 or 8 in 64 bits version. If so that explains much of IDs very poor performance. CS 5.5 and 6 were still 32 bits softwares and they perform poorly running under a 64 bits system. CC has now a 64 bits version, should do a better job. One way to overcome this problem is to increase memory to at least 8 Gbytes (16 is better), but that would require a quite powerful machine (which can address memories above 4 Gbytes) which you may not have available.
      On the other side, the times you mention seem absurdly high, so maybe you have some problem with your PC. Just a wild guess. Try to defrag your machine. Sometimes that helps.

      Thanks for the input. Yes, its a 64 bit machine. I can’t upgrade to CC yet, some vital plug-ins I use are not available for it yet. I have 8GB of ram already. I am currently waiting for ID to copy 20 F*(*&^&^*D characters into the clipboard. Been 3 minutes already. Performance other than this one problem has been just fine.

      Okay, Downloaded the CC trial, attempted to copy again. Same delay. Note: this is ONLY app I use that has this problem. I can copy and paste large amounts of data instantaneously from all other app. just ID thats the problem.
