Hi all, I’m getting a total ‘white-out’ screen effect when selecting text. Dragging across a line of text, the screen goes white, making it difficult to see where I’ve selected. (This doesn’t happen if I click at the beginning of the text and hold down shift and click at the other end to select the targeted text. But it’s super annoying). I’m working in InDesign 19.0.1 on a MacBook Pro running OS ‘Sonoma’ 14.1.1. Looking at the Apple support page, there’s a conflict with Sonoma and InDesign, but I haven’t seen any answers or solutions on the way. Anyone find a work-around? A plug-in? Some ‘GREP’ (just kidding, love you Erica!)? Let us know. -Steve in Boston

Honestly as David said on the last podcast … never do a dot zero update.… in saying that if you haven’t already try disabling the gpu and that might (might ) do it … that’s on preferences or now settings.

Thanks Terence! (I know! I heard David’s ‘never download a dot zero update’ advice the day *after* I went and did it!) I’ll try disabling the gpu setting. (The option is grayed out on my monitor, but maybe with monitors off it will work.) Also, I got another tip – ‘turn off rulers’ – that seems to solve the ‘white out’ problem. If I don’t have to measure anything! Cheers! -S

Wow, turning off rulers fixed it? That’s crazy. Fortunately, you can turn them on/off with Command/Ctrl-R.

Executives with ADHD seldom want to bring their planners to me. They’re embarrassed. They’ve already tried using every kind of planner to organize themselves, but nothing seems to work. So they limp along, believing that planners just aren’t for them. But eventually, when they’re overwhelmed enough, they’re ready to acknowledge that something isn’t working for them — and it may not be the planner.

The white-out screen issue during text selection could be related to compatibility between InDesign 19.0.1 and macOS Sonoma 14.1.1. Try updating InDesign to the latest version or check for patches addressing this specific problem.
