      Hi,

I’m designing a drinks menu for my client and I’m wondering what the best way to layout the drinks. Some of the drinks such a white wine have headings above the price for the ml of the drink. What would be the best way to have this layout so the price stays in the same place underneath all the time. Is the only way to draw a number of text boxes and align it manually or use a table?

      Thanks

      Matt

      Use tabs.
Additionally, I would keep the uniformity of text style/variant of the wine names (either italic or regular, personally I’d use bold).
I would not put your prices in italics and ensure the prices have the currency symbol and two decimal places.

Thanks for the reply Steve. Do you have any examples of the best way to use tabs?

I should have said the image is what the client sent over in a word document. My layout is uniformed and matches the rest of their menus.

      Thanks again :)

Here’s what I would do (ran your image through OCR) and simply applied three centred tabs… that’s all.

That’s interesting! I did try to use tabs but couldn’t get it to work but looks like I wasn’t using tabs the way you have plus I don’t think I’ve ever used it like that so looks like I’ve got something to learn with that.

Is there any chance of you sharing the InDesign file so I can look at how it’s been done? I’m currently using a table to do it as like I mentioned, I couldn’t get the tabs to work and it doesn’t look very good in my opinion whereas what you have done looks good.

      Thanks Steve :)
