      Hi,

      I am creating a catalogue for over 1000 items and am intending to use xml to import my data into indesign. I have did a couple of test run, so far the problem with xml in indesign is that you have to create the same number of text boxes in order for the data to appear. Unlike data merge where it would generate.

      So if you only have 10 text boxes, and 20 data, only the first 10 will show up.

      Has anyone have any experience using xml?

      You can made it auto-generate more, if the objects are anchored. We discuss this in “Real World InDesign” (peachpit press). You also must get a hold of Jim Maivald's XML and InDesign book.

      I am still studying the website you mentioned. From what I can see is that the xml file is structured in a way that in goes under 1 huge element. The figure isn't very clear to start with so this is what i'm guessing.

      example:

      <story>

      <author>

      <title>

      <author>

      <title>

      </story>

      something like that…

      I don't really have a proper xml editior and I have work it off from an excel files using an add on to convert it to xml. So each data row creates a new element.

      example:

      <row>

      <item>

      <description>

      <price>

      </row>

      <row>

      <item>

      <description>

      <price>

      </row>

      and so forth

      What should I do? plus I intend to add graphics to each item.
