      Hey IDS!

been lurking for years but never made an account. I have a particular question relating to something similar to the Text Highlight effect talked about here:

      https://creativepro.com/making-a-text-highlighter.php

I’m an InDesign template which uses this effect, but I would like it to fit around an entire paragraph and have actual whitespace margins. This will be used for a ‘quote’ style page to push text out from (usually dark) backgrounds. Here’s a sketch of the problem.

I can set top/bottom margins easily, but I haven’t found a solution for adding run-in and run-out to this paragraph style. What setting would control this?

Thanks in advance for your time!

What version of Indesign are you using? CC2017 has paragraph shading which would work better.

For several lines or a paragraph you could use that; or a combination rule above and below. In either one of those, you can use a negative amount of space for the alignment

      Hey Dwayne,

Paragraph shading did it! If you set it to leading and tweak the offsets it comes out very clean. Thanks!

Glad to help. Paragraph shading is a great feature.
