Updating InCopy files causes format changes

Hello. I’m experiencing some issues in my ID/IC workflow and hoping someone can help me figure it out. I have a team of designers and editors all working in the same files. When text edits are made through InCopy, and design goes to update the InDesign doc, it’s causing formatting changes. It is only happening with one designer, and when the InCopy file updates, it changes the tracking of the text. The rest of the text styling remains intact, it just increases the tracking which causes overset text. If a different designer updates the IC file, this doesn’t happen. The affected designer has run updates and uninstalled/reinstalled, but we cannot figure out what is causing this issue. Thanks in advance for advice anyone may have!

Hi Laura, I’m sorry, I just saw this. Did you discover the cause of the problem? I’m sure it has to do with conflicting style specs.

REPOSTING FROM EARLIER (I’m sure we’re all having trouble with focus)

I’m having trouble finding a basic InCopy tutorial. I’d like to train my team, and we’re in a rush period so muddling around seems really unproductive. Lynda has transitioned to the LinkedIn thing (which for reasons I won’t go into here is not an option for us any more). I don’t find much here that goes over the basics of setting up a file for InCopy use and why you would do one thing rather than another. And Adobe tutorials are pretty cumbersome to get to and find just a basic how-to. Lynda would have been the perfect place. Is there anything anywhere?

Hi Four! Nice to see you here. The only incopy training I know is from Lynda.com, which as you said, is part of LinkedIn Learning now. You sure you can’t watch that? (A lot of public libraries now have LinkedIn Learning subscriptions, so you can see them free there.)

You can also hire Anne-Marie or Chad or someone else to do a half- or full-day training. We have a form here: https://indesignsecrets.com/resources/training-and-consulting

Thank you David. Yah… LinkedIn has a problem with my name (go figure); they threw me out many years ago and felt pretty firm in their conviction. I will look at the link. I really appreciate. And everything both of you do. We’ll see you in just a few weeks, albeit virtually. Hope you’re safe and well.
