This could be a really dumb question, but if I have a vector file (ai or eps) and I size it up to say 150% in InDesign, will I have any problems with printing it (low-res/poor quality)? I know vectors are resolution-independent, but if you size up a vector file will InDesign know to rasterize the artwork at the correct resolution i.e. when outputting to a pdf or printing?

      Thanks!

Yup, if it's vector, InDesign will be able to handle it just fine.

You can use View > Display Performance > High Quality to preview how it will look.

      Thanks as always, David!

Part 2 to that question – is there a way in the Links panel to tell if an eps file is a vector file or a pixel file? I work with indd files sometimes that have a mix of both kinds of eps files.

Same question for a psd, if it has vector shape layers in it or ai smart objects in it, will it also print fine at whatever size I make it indd? Or does using photoshop cancel out the vector goodness?

No, ID can't look inside and see what's inside an EPS or a PDF.

The PSD question is easier to answer: See https://creativepro.com/tif…..pdf-vs.php

(See my comments after the article about smart objects… the answer: yes, psd cancels out vector goodness… grrr.)

You can check the resolution of an EPS in the Preflight panel – if you have set the Image Resolution for the images to be really low so the Preflight picks up the info. Clicking on the Info will give you the Resolution + a possible fix to remedy the issue.
