When I save out a pdf at Smallest File Size, the color chips in my In Design CC 2019 document save out correctly. When I save out the EXACT same file at a High Quality or a Press Quality pdf, the Bronze and Black colors SHIFT (please view the attache file)!!!!!! This is after a $3,000 print job that needed to be thrown in the garbage. Can ANYONE help me figure out either what I am doing wrong or any other insights? Thank you in advance.

Well, color management (maintaining consistent color from screen to print) is a huge topic. I did a course on it at Lynda.com/LinkedIn Learning: https://linkedin-learning.pxf.io/69WoG

However, the fact that it looked “right” when you export at smallest file size is an interesting clue. Smallest file size converts everything to RGB, so it’s probably quite accurate for what you see on screen. But it’s not accurate for CMYK print.

I assume you’re trying to maintain the difference between bronze and black… but that bronze is a very dark color. That’s going to be tricky to print! Remember that print may involve dot gain, which makes everything darker.

Thanks David. While I completely understand the need to maintain consistent color and the RGB/CMYK shift, what is taking place is a LITERAL color build change between the two chips. It’s mind boggling. This is not something I could to on purpose even it I wanted to. I opened the pdf page in Illustrator AFTER having saved out the pdf file and sure enough the color chips have ‘flipped flopped’. Insane.

Whoa. I think I’m seeing what you mean now.
What happens when you export as PDF/X1 or X4?
What if you copy the objects to a new document and export that way?

I will need to attempt that later and will let you know. I thought saving out at a ‘higher’ compatibility may solve the problem (Acrobat 7, 8 or 9), but that did not solve my issue at all. Thank you so much for all you and Anne-Marie do here. It is so valuable!!!
