unstable book panel

As a frequent user of the book panel I am not so happy since the last update because the book panel acts very unstable. For example if I nest the panel in the application frame it often has the tendency to move itself and disappear behind the application frame. And worse, when I double click on a document in the book panel to open the file InDesign crashes immediately.

Wow, I haven’t seen that problem, but I haven’t been doing much with books panels recently.
Have you tried resetting your preferences? I strongly recommend people do that after upgrading to a new version.

Thanks for your reply. As far as i can see it solved the problem.

Still having problems on closer inspection. Maybe it has to do with server connection.
If i work without server InDesign doesn’t crash on double clicking a book file. But the panel does move behind the application frame. I have to sort it out more accurate.

      Hi there,

I have painfully experienced the same issue (among many), since November 2015 Update.

I only manage very large documents (reports, books) so book panels are my daily friends. Since November, when I stack a book panel in my workspace, then open an InDesign file from it, the panel instantly disappears behind the app frame. Therefore, I have to go to the Window menu to recover it, standing in kind of a ‘default’ and troublesome location (upper-left corner of the screen).

Since I used to quickly open/check/manipulate/close numerous documents of a book through this panel, the job is now extraordinary tedious with which appears to be a new version bug (stack the panel, lose it while opening a doc, go to the menu, move it back… 40 times a day).

I’m afraid we’ll have to wait until the Adobe staff discovers the problem and fix it. Maybe you could talk about it: that will surely speed the process!

      Thanx.

      François.

Yes, this is INSANE. I used to bemoan the book panel’s inability to become part of a workspace. Wouldn’t that be convenient, if every time you wanted to work on a particular book you could change to a workspace that included its book panel? Well, now we can’t even keep the book panel reliably nested.

This is SO annoying! Every time I close a document from the book, the book file is gone! My work is primarily with large book files and this drives me insane. It can’t be only us that have this problem? Can’t believe it isn’t fixed yet….

Is the book panel just moving behind the application frame? Does it change if you have View > Application Frame on or off?

I am not sure what you mean? I haven’t got any option that is called Application Frame under my View menu?

Linda: Ah, sorry, I made a bad assumption (based on what people were saying previously in this thread). That’s a Mac feature. I wonder if the book panel is “disappearing” behind your InDesign application window. Like, if you move the whole InDesign window out of the way, is it hiding behind it.

Since the last update i am able to use the book panel again. (Due to the december 2015 update it crashes constantly.) However it is not 100%, especially with closing book panel documents it sometimes crashes. Further more the book panel goes out of sight after returning from another application to InDesign. Then i have to put it back from the Window menu. It’s then positioned in the top left corner.

Yes, exactly the same is happening to me. It moves to the top left corner. Very annoying. I have locked it in the toolbar on the right, so it should stay there regardless of if I have a document in it open or not. But alas….
